Burson earns 600th coaching victory
University of North Georgia (¶¶Òõ̽̽App) women's basketball head coach Buffie Burson earned her 600th career victory in a 76-70 triumph against ninth-ranked Carson-Newman University on Nov. 19 in Dahlonega.
"I just want to say thank you to every player and coach who has been a part of these wins. They are the ones who deserve the credit," Burson said. "I have been extremely blessed to coach and be around some of the very best players and people. I am also grateful to our administration through all these years for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to coach at ¶¶Òõ̽̽App."
Burson is in her 29th season leading the ¶¶Òõ̽̽App women's basketball program. She has 17 seasons of at least 20 wins, and her team was 18-2 during the COVID-19-shortened 2020-21 campaign. Her program has made the national tournament 14 times between NCAA Division II and NAIA, including its current five-year streak of reaching the NCAA postseason.
Her team advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four for the first time in 2022 and reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2019. The Nighthawks have also won four of the past five Peach Belt Conference tournaments.
Reaves named national softball Player of Year
¶¶Òõ̽̽App senior center fielder Sydnee Reaves has been named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Player of the Year.
Nighthawks advance to NCAA championship
The ¶¶Òõ̽̽App softball team has punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II championship for the fifth time in six seasons. It opens the event at 6:30 p.m. May 28 against McKendree.
McGill takes reins as brigade commander
Grace McGill has been named Corps of Cadets brigade commander for 2026-27. She is also a captain on the ¶¶Òõ̽̽App women's soccer team.
Softball team bounces back into Super Regional
The ¶¶Òõ̽̽App softball team tallied four wins in a row after a loss in its NCAA tournament opener, setting up a May 21-22 home Super Regional matchup with Francis Marion.
