Cadets raise $32K for suicide interventions
The University of North Georgia (¶¶Òõ̽̽App) Corps of Cadets raised more than $32,000 for Armed Forces Mission's suicide intervention efforts through the pushup competition Sept. 17, shattering its goal of $25,000.
The cadets brought in $32,243 from 376 donors.
"The Courageous Challenge is another way cadets are showing service to others and campus leadership," retired Col. Joseph Matthews, ¶¶Òõ̽̽App commandant of cadets, said. "I am very proud of their amazing hard work and caring for others."
Alpha Company raised the most money with $8,268 and Charlie Company did the most pushups. Cadets raised money by asking for donations to support their participation in the event.
Armed Forces Mission, led by ¶¶Òõ̽̽App alumnus Lt. Col. Ken Koon, conducts suicide interventions and teaches first responders and military members to do the same. The Courageous Challenge also offered training to ¶¶Òõ̽̽App cadets to know how to help if a friend or loved one is considering suicide.
Mullins excited to give back in return to ¶¶Òõ̽̽App
Alumnus Shawn Mullins will return to ¶¶Òõ̽̽App in October to raise funds for the Golden Eagle Band, a cadet specialty unit that helped shape his own journey.
Mund takes lead of alumni relations
Jordan Mund, a 2021 ¶¶Òõ̽̽App graduate, started her new role as executive director of alumni relations Sept. 1.
Officers grew thanks to opportunities at ¶¶Òõ̽̽App
Jaden Clark-Davidson and Brandon Clark-Davidson were two of the 20 ¶¶Òõ̽̽App cadets who commissioned Sept. 10 as second lieutenants in the Army and Georgia Army National Guard.
9/11 remembrance event set for Sept. 10 at ¶¶Òõ̽̽App
Col. Christian Durham, ¶¶Òõ̽̽App's professor of military science, will serve as the keynote speaker for ¶¶Òõ̽̽App's 9/11 remembrance ceremony. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10.
